Project Manager (Business & Performance) - Role Details
My client is looking for a Project Manager with a background in the defence, spacecraft or aerospace industry, ideally with a missile systems technology, radar systems or communications background to help define, plan and deliver a number of small to medium sized contracts and projects, against business plan targets through rigorous cost control and schedule adherence. The Project manager will manage stakeholder interfaces, including customers & ensure accurate reporting of progress against all aspects of contract performance. The role also has a high degree of focus on supporting the winning of new and follow-on business.

Accountabilities
- Manages and controls contract cost and cash flow, maximising margin and agreeing margin adjustment criteria.
- Co-ordinate interfaces with internal functions & directorates
- Prepare reports covering business performance for area, for example Sector Reviews
- Ensure project Work Breakdown/Cost Collection structures and Project Plans are defined, agreed and maintained.
- Prepare and maintain contract risk and opportunity plans/budgets and implement a project risk and opportunity management process.
- Negotiate and in conjunction with the B&P Executive, Commercial and Finance Executives approve contract changes.
- Establish and implement effective project management processes, tools and reporting mechanisms on achievement of the programme and budgets
- Negotiate and maintain top level plans, objectives and statement of work
- Lead and influence multi-disciplined project teams and encourage strong team working both within and beyond the B &P function.
- Support the B&P executive & sector B&P team on the commercial/legal integrity of contracts with the customer and the effective management of the supply base.
- Plan, load and control contract budgets.
- Maintain topical set of project task directives and amendments, including the management of all variance controls
- Ensure workload forecast is available for the sector in line with project and business plans.
- Develop & maintain key relationships with Customers & other external agencies
- Generation and implementation of programme business improvement strategies

Qualifications and experience
- Ideally Degree qualified in a technical, science or project management discipline or equivalent
- Ideally qualified to APMP / Prince 2 Level
- Experience of using tools such as Microsoft Project
- Strong project and risk management skills and knowledge
- Sound business judgement
- Technical appreciation of complex problems
- Strong communication & motivational skills

We’re looking for at least a 2.2 in electronic, electrical and electronic or communications engineering, or a relevant applied physics discipline.
